Abstract

Four partners from three Nordic countries carried out for the first time a Round Robin test on a heat exchanger designed for district heating applications. The aim was to investigate the level of uncertainty achieved in determining the thermal capacity and pressure losses in a heat exchanger. Project results will be used to improve quality procedures in participating laboratories and also can serve as a reference when revision of relevant CEN standard will be activated. Since the standard may be used in type testing of exchangers prior to their admission to the market, quality of testing has its own meaning in sustaining and upgrading the technical quality of district heating, a major Nordic heating technology. It was found that although each laboratory was well capable of performing its tests with good accuracy, space for improvement was identified in terms of repeatability and reproducibility of the results. NORDTEST kind financial support covered approximately half of project costs.
