Abstract

This document specifies a method to measure the weighted acceleration level of vibration and shock in buildings for an evaluation of human annoyance from whole-body vibration. The method takes no account of secondary phenomena, such as rattling pieces of furniture or windows, or structure-borne sound, which often attend vibration and shock in buildings. Note: Such phenomena are discussed in Annex 1. The method is further limited to considering annoyance of persons from environmental vibrations. The measurement results are not considered appropriate for evaluating possible structural damage to the building itself. The method specifies measurement of weighted acceleration level of building floors (and other structural elements) in the frequency range 1 to 80 Hz.
