Abstract

1. SCOPE

The purpose of this NORDTEST method is to study the’performance of external wall elements subjected to frost. This means to test if the materials in the elements will stand the freezing/thawing action without damage, to determine possible curving of the elements due to moisture gradients or differncial thermal expansion, and to test the bond strength between different materials in the elements.

2. FIELD OF APPLICATION

Whole building elements are tested. Primarily the method relates to building components like:
  • clay tiles or ceramic tiles set in mortar/concrete
  • slabs of natural stone set in mortar/concrete
  • rendering, e.g. applied directly on insulation
  • masonry walls.
