Abstract

The aim of this NORDTEST method is to form a common basis for evaluation and approval of smoke alarms. In this method smoke alarm means an electronic system which gives off an audible alarm when exposed to smoke of certain concentrations. The test methods concern the primary performance characteristics of smoke alarms, the stability of the performance characteristics against the influences from the operation environment and the suitability of the smoke alarms concerning typical types of fire. In addition to the tests in this method, further tests will be required by the National authorities e.g., regarding hazards in connection with smoke alarms based on ionization and electrical shock hazards for mains operated smoke alarms.
