Abstract

This report presents a proposal for a standardised method for creep tests and the empirical framework necessary for determining the density for volume-stable state of a granulated loose-fill material as a function of the applied stress when exposed to a climate characterised as cyclic humidity conditions. The behaviour of a volume of granulated loose-fill material exposed to external load and the specified climate is described by creep tests. For the creep to asymptotically approach equilibrium, a quasi volume-stable state of the granulated loose-fill material was achieved. The empirical framework is used to describe the creep behaviour and to determine the density, at the Equilibrium State of creep, of a granulated loose-fill material as a function of the applied stress exposed to a specified climate. The proposed standardised method for creep tests and the necessary empirical framework shown are used in cases where the granulated loose-fill material is exposed to specific cyclic humidity conditions with a constant temperature.
