Abstract

1 SCOPE

This test method covers determination of the moisture content of building materials or building structures by moderation or slowing of fast neutrons where the neutron source and the thermal neutron detector both remain at the surface.

2 FIELD OF APPLICATION

The method is preferably used for flat warm roofs where areas, damaged by leaks and water infiltration to the insulating material, give high neutron count in relation to dry areas. The method can also be used in building structures, e.g. concrete, brickwork, etc. In measuring any structure it should be taken into account that:
  • material closest to the detector gives the highest response,
  • any material containing hydrogen will provide a response,
  • materials containing
