Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The glue joints in structural laminated wood members are supposed to be as strong and durable as the wood itself. However, the initial strength of the joints, if measured as the shear-strength of the glue-line, does not give any indication of the strength of the joints when these are exposed to severe climatic conditions.

SCOPE

The NORDTEST method presented here is designed to simulate the effects of exterior exposure on the joints and thus facilitate an evalution of the strength of glue joints in structural laminated members. The complete test, which involves two test cycles, can be completed in 24 hours.
